MVRDV is looking for a Digital Archivist Intern who will take care of our project archives and databases. During this internship you will learn how to organize different kinds of materials and data. You will be working with different materials produced in a variety of ways, including photographs, text files, official documents, recordings and films on a daily basis. In order to succeed in this role, you need to be a structured and communicative person with strong attention to detail and have an affinity with database management. Does this sound like you?

Responsibilities

• Designing and managing digital collections by establishing metadata object description schemas, controlled vocabularies, and exercising quality control of the software, equipment and metadata records to facilitate access to archival materials.
• Organizing, preserving and taking care of physical collection using industry best practices.
• Working with internal teams to collect project materials, uploading these to our digital archives and classifying them.
• Maintaining user-friendly, computer-aided search systems. Assisting stakeholders when in doubt or struggling with these systems.
• Importing and copying photographs from various digital media into our database.
• Visualizing data sets and communicating these in an easy-to-understand way for various stakeholders.
• Asking questions and getting to the bottom of projects to ensure correct classification.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s student. A study in Archival Management, Information Science or Data Science or a similar subject.
• Fluent English speaker with strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Effective interpersonal skills.
• Experience in processing digital archival collections, including experience in creating metadata descriptions, digitization, organization and care of born-digital materials will be a plus.
• Data mining and data checks experience is also a plus.
• Available 32-40 hours/week.
